Winter School 2013 Vienna
The First International Winter School, funded by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme, was organised and hosted by the Department of Finno-Ugric Studies of the University of Vienna, at the University Campus, from February 17 to March 2, 2013.
The programme included
- a course of Northern (Kazym) Khanty, by Zsófia Schön (Munich), Mária Sipos (Budapest/Szeged) and the native speaker Valentina Solovar;
- a course of Nganasan, by Beáta Wagner-Nagy (Hamburg) and Sándor Szeverényi (Szeged);
- a workshop on language revitalisation, by Janne Saarikivi (Helsinki) and Annika Pasanen (Inari/Helsinki);
- a workshop on e-grammars, by Veronika Bauer (Munich) and Gábor Fónyad (Vienna);
- a workshop on historical linguistics, by Marianne Bakró-Nagy (Szeged) and Johanna Laakso (Vienna);
- a workshop/course on creating posters, by Veronika Bauer (Munich);
- lectures on ethnography by Elena Skribnik (Munich);
- and a colloquium in which advanced students presented their projects.
From the partner institutes, 35 students in total took part: attending the courses and lectures, preparing an active contribution for at least one workshop, and writing a learning diary throughout the winter school. The programme was intensive and challenging, but the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The tradition will be continued.
